Be begin this tour of Siena in San Gimignano, which is a UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage site and “the city of a hundred towers”. The tour leader will supply information and a guide to the town’s millenarian palazzos and traditional artisan produces so you can enjoy the free time at your leisure. The white wine Vernaccia, exclusive to San Gimignano, is produced here and is famous for its exceptional quality and was the first Italian DOCG wine. After this, we travel to Monteriggioni which was featured on the old Italian 100 lira note. This crown shaped fortress has the original walls dating back to the 12th century containing the 14 towers likened to the Giants of Inferno in Dante’s Divine Comedy. From here we lunch on local produce such as salami and cheeses at a Chianti winery, of course it is accompanied by a tasting of the wine. Next, we travel to Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2004 and on to Montalcino which dominates the Brunello vineyards surrounding it and which have been a major factor in making this world renowned area famous. Finally, we will enjoy a tasting of the Brunelo of Montalcino, one of the first Italian DOCG wines. A visit to the cellar and the accompanying typical local produce will be a fantastic end to our tour.
